Multi-Generational Homes
As baby boomers start to age, and the family unit is becoming more important than ever, many are finding it very convenient to live with multiple generations under one roof.
There are various reasons why a family may want to live multi-generational, such as to care for an aging parent, adult children with special needs, children going to college who may be living at home or coming back to stay from time to time. Whatever the reason, multi-generational living is certainly making a comeback.
You may want an extra bedroom or two for family members, while others require areas with a separate kitchen, entrance, handicap accessibility or even a larger garage for additional cars.
Desired location may also be influenced by proximity to local hospitals, senior centers or other important activities to family members.
Some options include two master suites in the same house, and others are small cottages separate from the main house, but connected by a lawn or courtyard, a garage apartment or refurbished basement. The house needs to be accessible for everyone, while still allowing everyone their own individual privacy.
